Lively Air: Carbon Footprint and Companies

Even though it is the consumer who decides to consume
different products and services and is ultimately
responsible for the carbon emissions, they alone cannot
change the trajectory we are on with climate change.
Companies have to give consumers the possibility to
choose a climate-friendly option and make it possible for
them to change the course.

That doesn’t mean that people should stop demanding (with their actions) for change if being climate-friendly is not as easy or convenient as one would like. Once significantly less people purchase products that are speeding up climate change, the companies offering these products would be forced to either change their ways or to abandon the business and expand to cleaner alternative businesses.

We, at Lively Air, want to be a part of the change in the ways companies operate. Not only because it is pretty cool to take part in saving the world, but because it is just more profitable. More and more people choose eco-friendly products even if they are slightly more expensive. A company that does not take sustainability into account will not be able to prosper in the (near) future.

Lively Air’s carbon footprint report

We have calculated, to our best ability, the CO2 emissions caused by the existence of our products all the way from the production of our bottles and bottle caps, to our retailers’ store. We have attempted to minimize the emissions caused by different sources throughout the value chain. With the help of the carbon footprint reports we can better track our emissions and work to minimize them. We can recognize the processes that emit the most and work to eliminate the emissions caused by those processes.

To offset the emissions that remain, we plant trees. We can’t reveal the name of our future partner just yet as we haven’t made the first donation (because we haven’t begun sales yet), but what we are certain about is that our future partner will plant trees in Sub-Saharan Africa. These trees will be planted in a forest garden that will create income for a local entrepreneur. By planting trees in a forest garden, we can be sure that when one tree plant reaches the end of its life, another will be planted in its place. The entrepreneur not only has the resources, but also the incentive to plant a new tree to replace the dead one as their income depends on it.

Carbon footprint report for SMEs

Creating a carbon footprint report might seem like a big and a difficult task for SMEs(small and medium-sized enterprises) due to lack of resources. With our report we just proved that getting an estimate is not so difficult and it can be completed even with public data from the internet. But of course, you have to remain critical towards the data you find and I recommend extreme caution when choosing which sources to trust.

Creating a carbon footprint report is just one step towards sustainability and reducing the emissions demands work, but it is a great start. The report can help a business to identify the worst emitting processes, get more results by knowing where the real problem lies and minimize the emissions. The report also helps to better communicate the company’s desire and efforts towards being sustainable to its current customers and potential future customers.

We encourage you to download our carbon footprint report which is available for download at our website. Feel free to use the report as a template for your own purposes, commercial or non-commercial.
